Fort William, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the popular Scottish Highlands town of Fort William which is about 109 miles north of Glasgow.

Fort William (pop 10,000) is situated on the shores of Loch Linnhe. The name originates from a fort (only the basic foundations of which still exist) built in 1690 as part of a strategy to pacify the Scottish Highlands during the rule of King William. Fort William has successfully established itself as an outdoor centre with emphasis on mountain biking, skiing and mountain climbing. The town sits at the northern end of the 96 mile long, West Highland Way hiking trail.
