Atholl Road, Pitlochry

This evening, I am posting information on the central Scottish town of Pitlochry. This town, in its Highland Perthshire setting, became popular with visitors on the advent of the railway in late Victorian times and  to this day tourism plays a major role in the local economy. From the visitor perspective, Pitlochry has much to offer including:

  • Central location-ideal as a base for touring Scotland. Pitlochry is 85 miles NNE of Glasgow and 70 miles N of Edinburgh.
  • Shopping-lots of small and medium size¬†shops covering a wide spectrum.
  • A wide variety of hotels, Guest Houses and B&Bs.
  • Blair Atholl Whisky Distillery (tours available).
  • Pitlochry Dam, which is the basis of a hydro-electric scheme, and open to the public.
  • A salmon fish ladder (connected to the dam).
  • Edradour Distillery (tours available).
  • Dunfallandy Pictish Stone
  • Fishing on the local rivers.
  • Whitewater rafting and allied activities on the local rivers.
  • Pitlochry Festival Theatre, a well-regarded venue for a wide range of productions.
  • Explorers Garden.
  • Black Spout Waterfall.
