Highland Cows, Skye, Scotland

This morning we departed our lodgings in Kyleakin, Isle of Skye and embarked on an island wide tour which encompassed the following:

  • Photo-stop at small herd of Highland Cows.
  • Sligachan, where we were able to admire and photograph the impressive mountain scenery.
  • Dun Beag Broch. Base of a high status iron-age dwelling similar to a modern lighthouse.
  • Dunvegan Castle garden. Resplendent with Spring flowers and a waterfall.
  • Seal watching. An adventure on a small boat from Dunvegan Castle which provided close proximity access to a colony of about 300 common seals.
  • Fairy Glen. A valley near Uig which is populated with unusual,small conical hills.
  • Burial place of Flora MacDonald who was famous for assisting escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746.
  • Skye Museum of Island Life which includes reconstructed, traditional stone and thatch houses from days past.
  • The Quiraing, a famous geological feature formed as the results of a landslip due to build=up of volcanic basalt.
  • Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock near Staffin,
  • Portree, principal town on Skye with colourful harbour and shops.

After return to Kyleakin at 6.00 pm we later dined out at the excellent Waterside Seafood Restaurant in nearby Kyle of Lochalsh.

Tomorrow we move on to Loch Ness and Inverness.
