Today, July 23rd., we departed our lodgings in Ballincollig, near Cork. Ireland and embarked on a trip as follows:

First a 30 minute drive west to Midleton where we joined the 1015 am tour of Jameson Whiskey Experience. This entailed a guided tour of the Old Distillery which ceased production on 1075 and replaced with a functioning distillery on an adjacent site. Here we were shown the whiskey making process from malting and mashing through to fermentation, distillation and maturation culminating in a tasting.

After about two hours at Jameson we drove west for over two hours to connect with the Ring of Kerry scenic touring route with first stop at Sneem for a break and refreshments. Sneem is a pretty and popular village, which during period July 19th-24th mounts a Summer Festival entailing a wide range of events and activities.

We departed Sneem about 3.00pm and spent the rest of the day on the Ring of Kerry route, a scenic coastal and mountain drive finishing in Killarney. We benefited from dry and sunny weather which enhanced the experience considerably. Stops included Waterville, where there is a Charlie Chaplin statue, two ‘stone forts’ which are about 2000 years old, a medieval castle named Ballycarbery and dinner at Cahersiveen.

We arrived Killarney about 10.00 pm where we checked into our lodgings this concluding a long and productive day.
