This evening, I am focusing on Glenfarclas Distillery on Speyside, Scotland. This sits in the shadow of Ben Rinnes (mountain), and is located between Aberlour and Grantown-on-Spey, about 62 miles N.W. of Aberdeen.

Glenfarclas is an independent distiller under ownership of the sixth generation of the Grant family, parent company being J & G Grant.

By Speyside standards Glenfarclas is a medium-size distillery producing about 3.0m litres p.a. compared to 14.0m litres p.a. at Glenfiddich.

The six stills  are biggest on Speyside whilst outside the 30 dunnage warehouses hold all the maturing single malt in, predominantly, former sherry casks.

Here  are the mash tuns and washbacks during production.

Glenfarclas produces a wide range of single malts which include:

  • 10 year old.
  • 18 year old.
  • 20 year old.
  • 25 year old
  • 30 year old
  • 40 year old.
  • Numerous ‘Family Cask’ releases.

Close to 800,000 bottles are sold each year, primarily to U.K., U.S.A., Taiwan, Russia and Germany.

There is a Visitor Centre, tastings and tours of the Distillery.
