This evening, I am posting information on the town of Inveraray (population 650) in S.W. Scotland, about sixty-five miles N.W.of Glasgow.

Although an interesting destination in its own right, Inveraray provides a good stopping point in trips to/from Oban, Campeltown and Kennacraig ferry terminal (Islay).

At Inveraray can be found many tourist orientated shops, restaurants, hotels and other accommodations.

More information on sites in and around Inveraray:

  • Auchindrain Township, a reconstructed Highland village replicating life in bygone days.Located six miles south.
  • Inveraray Castle, an important Adam designed Grand House dating from the 18th century. Home to the Duke of Argyll who is Chief of Clan Campbell.
  • Inveraray Woollen Mill (tourist shop).
  • The 18th. century planned town of Inveraray featuring Old Jail and County Court, Bell Tower and many other interesting buildings of architectural interest.
  • The forty mile long sea loch, Loch Fyne, famous for its oysters.
  • Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, a high-end seafood restaurant located about five miles north.
