Dornoch Firth, Scottish Highlands.

This evening, my theme is the gem of a little town  located on the north-east coast of Scotland called Dornoch. The name means ‘pebbly place’.

Dornoch is about forty-three miles north of Inverness.

This quaint town has much to offer the visitor including:

  • Golf: Royal Dornoch Struie. Golspie, Tain and Brora.

Golf at Royal Dornoch.

  • A wide sandy beach.

Dornoch Beach

  • Lots of small, interesting shops.

  • A magnificent Cathedral dating from the 13th century which features 28 stained glass windows.

  • Andrew Carnegie connection. This industrialist and philanthropist stayed each year at Skibo Castle some 6 km away. He donated the local library and financed renovation of the Cathedral organ.(Skibo is not usually open to visitors.)
