Dunskey Castle, Portpatrick, Scotland

This evening, I am reporting on Dunskey Castle which is located on the coastal footpath near Portpatrick, about one hundred miles south of Glasgow in the West of Scotland.

More information:

  • Situated on a rocky outcrop jutting into the Irish Sea.
  • A mid-16th century, high status Tower House built for the Adairs of Kinhilt with northern wing added in the 1620s.
  • The whole building was derelict by 1700.
  • Built on site of an earlier Adair castle which was first recorded in the 14th century. This earlier castle was destroyed around 1500 by the McCullochs of Myrton and Cardoness.
