Portree is the principal town on Skye which is a popular tourist destination. Summary facts and information concerning Portree:

  • Population about 2500 of which 38 pct. can speak Gaelic.
  • Well endowed with a wide range of accommodation, from bunkhouses through to luxury hotels.
  • Central location provides a good base for touring the island including the Trotternish region and Dunvegan Castle.
  • Benefits from a scenic and colourful harbour with views of the Cuillin Mountains.
