Whiting Bay with Holy Isle in distance.

This evening, I am reporting on the quiet and genteel village of Whiting Bay which is located on the S.E. corner of Isle of Arran which sits off Scotland’s West Coast.

Whiting Bay, Arran, Scotland

Whiting Bay was an upscale holiday destination up until the 1950s but importance faded after withdrawal of the direct ferry link from the Scottish mainland. However, there are many impressive residential properties (villas) from the previous era plus shops, eateries and hotels.

The name appears very English but is likely to have Scandinavian origins as Arran was under Norwegian (Viking) control until the 13th century.

Places of interest nearby include Glenashdale Falls (an impressive waterfall) and the Giants’ Graves, an early Neolithic site from over 5000 years ago.
