Chatelherault, Hamilton, Scotland.

This evening, I am posting information on Chatelherault near Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, about forty-one miles west of Edinburgh.

Chatelherault originated as a hunting lodge and summer-house in 1732. It was built for the Dukes of Hamilton who engaged the services of leading Scottish architect, William Adam for the project. Positioned with a high elevation, is was originally at the end of a grand avenue of trees which ran from Hamilton Palace . Due to subsidence the Palace was demolished but Chatelherault survived and benefited from extensive restoration between 1979 and 1987.
