This evening, I am posting information on Rossdhu House which is located near Luss on the banks of one of Scotland’s largest lakes, Loch Lomond.
Summary information on this building as follows:
- Historically connected with Clan Colquhoun.
- Constructed 1773 for Sir James Colquhoun. Architect may have been John Baxter.
- Replaced earlier medieval castle dating from 15th century which was destroyed by fire after completion of Rossdhu House.
- Until 1970s was home to Sir Ivar and Lady Colquhoun.
- With effect from 1994 was leased to Loch Lomond Golf Club, a prestigious and exclusive club.
- Can be used as a weddings venue.
- Tourist visitors are normally excluded. The only means of viewing the property is via boat from Loch Lomond.
- Rossdhu translates as ‘black point’.
