This evening, I am focusing on the pleasant coastal village of Dunure in Ayrshire, Scotland. Location is about forty-five miles S.W.of Glasgow.

The name may date back 1500-2000 years and is  probably derived from Dun (=fort) and ure (= yew tree).

This morning, we departed our Edinburgh lodgings and drove south then west for about three  hours to arrive at our destination of Culzean Castle and Country Park on the Ayrshire coast.

Culzean Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on Culzean Castle, which is one of the top visitor attractions in the south-west of Scotland being located on the Ayrshire coast, about 1 hour drive south of Glasgow. Culzean (pronounced  ‘cullane‘) offers a combination of extensive parkland with deer, well maintained gardens, seaside caves and glorious coastal views. The unusual name is derived from Old Gaelic and translates as ‘bird corner’.
