Today, I am focusing on Loch Ness, one of Scotland’s top visitor sites.

Loch Ness:

  • Comprises the greatest volume of freshwater in Britain and ranks second only to Loch Lomond in surface area. The loch is 22.6 miles (37 km) long and about 1 mile (1.6Km) wide. Greatest depth is 750 ft (230m).

Trebuchet at Castle Urquhart, Scotland

This morning we travelled from Kirkwall on Orkney to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.

First stage was transfer from Kirkwall to Stromness where we connected with the 11.00 am ferry crossing to Scrabster on the Scottish mainland. The crossing ran on time and took ninety minutes.

Highland Cows at Glenmoriston, Scotland

This morning, we departed our lodgings at Kyle of Lochalsh at 10.00 am and drove N.E. for about 10 minutes to our first stop at Eilean Donan Castle. This castle was actually rebuilt from a ruin during the early 20th century by the Chief of Clan Macrae and is now a very popular visitor attraction and also used for filming.
