This morning, we departed our Inverness lodgings and drive south, down Scotland’s Great Glen (valley) with first┬ástop about half way down Loch Ness at Castle Urquhart.

Moray Firth from Fort George, Scotland

Today, using Inverness as a base we visited two important sites, viz:

Fort George

First to a stunning piece of 18th century British military engineering as manifested in the 250-year-old Fort George at Ardersier, eleven miles east of Inverness.

Culloden Battlefield

Today, we benefited from improved weather and were able to spend the morning at Culloden Battlefield near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. This was the site of the last battle on British soil when, on April 16th 1746, a Highlander (Jacobite) army under Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by a British force under General Cumberland.
