OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This morning, we departed our lodgings in Killarney and drove south for a short distance to Muckross House, an imposing Victorian mansion which dates from 1843 in the Elizabethan style. At one time the House played host to Queen Victoria and her entourage.Guests toured the interior which is decorated with period furnishings.Outside there is a landscaped garden,  lake, arboretum, grazing cattle and farm. Guests also availed of a 45 min trip on a Irish Jaunty Car.

Today, is the final day of our extended family tour of Scotland with focus on personal ancestry.

Group members availed of a ‘freed day’ exploring various facets of Scotland’s historic, capital city. I joined a small number of the group with focus on Royal Mile, Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Royal Botanic Garden. Above image is the Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood.

This morning, I collected guests from central Glasgow and then embarked on a Leishman and Dunsmore ancestry themed tour of North Lanarkshire.

The tour commenced with a stop at Condorrat which, in the mid-19th century, was home to a community of textile weavers. There is one former weaver’s cottage still preserved ( see below). We also visited an ancestral site in Airdrie Road.
