Stornoway, isle of Lewis, Scotland

This evening, I am focusing on the town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The latter comprise a chain of islands which lie well out into the Atlantic off the N.W. coast of Scotland.

 This evening, I am posting information on Pobull Fhinn Stone Circle which is located about 5 miles (8km) from Lochmaddy on North Uist, Outer Hebrides. Key features here are:

  • Located on a south facing hillside covered in bracken and heather overlooking Langass Loch(lake).

Sherriffmuir Battle Site 1715

Today, I visited Sheriffmuir battle site, close to Stirling in central Scotland. This battle was fought on Nov 13th 1715 in weather and terrain conditions likely similar to those prevailing today. ‘Muir’ is a Scots dialect word equivalent to the English ‘Moor’ and means a large area of rough, open ground which is invariably wet or waterlogged.
