This evening, I am posting information on the Barnhouse Prehistoric Settlement on Orkney, Scotland. This is sited by the shore of Loch of Harray, Orkney Mainland, Scotland and in close proximity to other important Neolithic sites such as Maes Howe, Stones of Stennes and Ring of Brodgar.

Scottish Thistles at Stones of Stenness, Orkney

Today, we focused on the rich historical heritage of Orkney, a group of islands off Scotland’s northern coast. The history is mainly focused on the Neolithic and Viking periods (about 4000 years apart). Scenery was also fascinating with rural, coastal and loch (lake) views supplemented with wildlife such as seals, swans, geese, ducks and other birds. Weather was favourable, being mainly dry throughout the day.

Stones of Stennes, Orkney, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on one of the top prehistoric sites on Orkney, Scotland if not the entire British Isles. Orkney is a group of islands located N.E. of the Scottish mainland and is very well endowed with prehistoric sites such as Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar and Maes Howe.
