Wild Orchid

This evening, I am continuing my botanical theme with an image and information on a wild orchid which I encountered when recently visiting the Wick area of Caithness in Northern Scotland.

In Britain there are at least 17 types of wild orchid. The image shows the type named ‘Orchis’ which by coincidence is the name from which ‘orchid’ emanates. continue reading…

This morning, with sun shining and temperature around 20C  I went off to visit another local garden, namely at House for Art Lover. The House was completed in the 1990s from an original design by famous Glaswegian architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh dating back to the early part of the 20th century.  The House is built on the site of a former Victorian mansion which featured a walled garden, typical of the period, That walled garden is now immaculately maintained and, apart from the colourful display of plants and flowers, is known for sweet peas.

Spring Flower at Greebank

This afternoon, warm and sunny, I cycled round to Greenbank Garden, south of Glasgow, to obtain some images with a flavour of Spring. To an extent I achieved my objective but have to apologise for image quality as I lost power on my principal digital camera and had to resort to the cellphone camera and hence poor quality of images. continue reading…
