Badbea Clearance Village, Caithness, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on a tangible connection with the Highland Clearances, 1750-1850 when the old Scottish clan land system was disbanded and thousands of Highlanders were ejected from their homes to make way for large-scale sheep farming. Many of the dispossessed emigrated to Canada, United States and Australasia.

Falconry demonstration at Dunrobin Castle, Scotland

This morning we departed our lodgings in Kirkwall, Orkney, drove for 20 minutes to nearby Stromness, connected with the 9.00 am ferry crossing to Scrabster on the Scottish mainland and duly arrived at 10.30 am. En-route we passed the Old Man of Storr rock stack on the coast of Hoy.
