Browsing Posts in Hadrians Wall

The Roman amphitheatre at Chester had a chequered history.Built in the AD70s but became derelict after the 20th Legion was posted north in the 120s AD to work on construction of Hadrian’s Wall. Brought back into use around AD 275 and remained functioning until final abandonment around AD 350.

Tonight I am posting posting information on a recent (June 9th and 10th) small group hike along the line of Hadrian’s Wall in northern England where the village of Chollerford, near Chesters Roman Fort,  was used as a base.

Today we visited sites on Hadrian’s Wall then Durham Cathedral. The sites on the former were Brunton Turret, Chesters Roman Fort and Housesteads Roman Fort.
