Single Malt tastings at Ardbeg Distillery, Islay, Scotland

This morning, we departed our lodgings in Port Askaig and drove to the southern part of the island entailing a trip taking about 45 minutes in course of which we encountered peat cuttings. For those familiar with Islay whisky, peat is a key ingredient of the malting process and gives the spirit a smokey flavour.

Whisky tasting at Bunnahabhain Distillery, Islay, Scotland

Today, we visited four of Islay’s famous whisky distilleries, a trip aided by favourable weather conditions.

First call was Bunnahabhain near Port Askaig. This is South African owned and produces about 2.7m litres of spirit p.a.. Here guest availed of tastings of four drams in the Visitor Centre.
