Architecture, Stratford upon Avon

Architecture, Stratford upon Avon, England

This morning, our tour group departed lodgings at Cambridge in eastern England and then drove north-west to Stratford upon Avon. Here we spent time walking around this historic town, visited Shakespeare’s birthplace  in Henley Street, had a pub lunch and then walked along the bank of the River Avon to Trinity Church and Shakespeare’s burial place.  Weather remained dry.

After Stratford we drove south to Cirencester, the former Roman town of Corinium to view the impressive amphitheatre, second largest in Roman Britain after that at Londinium (London).

Next we moved on through pleasant countryside to our destination for the night of Bath, also a former Roman town.

Tomorrow we tour the main sites and sights of Bath

Today, I have been re-grouping after a five day tour of Scotland taking in interesting and picturesque parts as shown in previous days’  blog postings.

This morning, I went off to nearby Greenbank House and Garden for the dual purpose of (a) obtaining photos of trees in the sunshine and (b) purchasing garden plants.

Mission was a success, as evidenced from the images below. Greenbank is a great local resource allowing gardeners, dog walkers, photographers and others to avail of the facilities there. Greenbank House dates from the 18th century, Georgian era and is of interest to architects.

Elsewhere today, I have been focused on tour enquiries including :

  • A potential Cotswolds and Shakespeare Country Tour during 2011.
  • A Loch Ness tour for a family during November 2010.
  • A two day Highlands tour for a small group.

Also posted information on Boyle family history to my separate Glasgow Ancestry Blog.

Weather here has been basically fine but getting colder. Winter edges closer!

Today, I am collating images from a Cotswolds tour of 2007.

I like Bourton, it is where my wife and honeymooned many years ago. Very quaint-a river running through the centre of a historic and very picturesque little village. Well worth a visit.
