Southwark Cathedral is an Anglican place of worship tucked away on the South bank of the River Thames, close to Borough Market and London Bridge Station in London, England There has been a place of worship at the site from the 11th century and possibly as far back as the 7th century.

The Golden Hinde was a 16th century warship which circumnavigated the world between 1577 and 1580 under Francis (later Sir Francis) Drake. The original Golden Hinde was, effectively, a pirate ship enjoying tacit support of Queen Elizabeth I whose main target was the lumbering Spanish galleons loaded with gold and silver in transit from South America to Spain. The Golden Hinde had a speed of about seven knots compared to the three-four knots of the galleons.

The Globe Theatre in London is a reconstruction of the 16th century original which in turn played a key role in the development of the English language insofar as many of William Shakespeare’s plays were written with the particular auditorium and audience in mind. Shakespeare also had a shareholding in the Globe.
