York (Eboracum) was a combined Roman military and civilian base for about 300 years or so. In fact, in AD208 the Emperor Septimus Severus established his Imperial Court here and ruled the Empire from York for a period of three years whilst campaigning in what is now Scotland.

Kiplin Hall in Yorkshire is a grand Jacobean house which was built for George Calvert, Secretary of State to  King James I (England) and founder of Maryland, USA The University of Maryland maintains a Study Center at Kiplin Hall, which is a resource for students in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. 

Today, we visited Kiplin Hall in North Yorkshire then Arbeia Roman Fort and Vindolanda with both of latter being assocIated with Hadrian’s Wall.
