Located near Dufftown on Speyside.
Name comes from Gaelic and means ‘Valley of the Deer’.

Dewars Whisky, Aberfeldy Distillery, Scotland

This evening, the focus of my blog post is Aberfeldy Distillery in Central Scotland. This is a popular visitor centre also known as Dewars World of Whisky. Aberfeldy, together with sister distilleries, Craigellachie (Speyside), Macduff, Royal Brackla and Aultmore, is ultimately owned by Italy’s Bacardi Group.

Tour Speyside Distilleries, Tour Scotland

This morning we departed lodgings at Grantown-on-Spey (An Cala) and Ross Mor) and then took a minor road north to Craigellachie.This road tracked the River Spey and took us through some wonderful Speyside scenery where we also observed a variety of wildlife including Red Squirrel, birds of prey, pheasant and black grouse. There was also Highland Cattle and many flocks of sheep.

Stills at Edradour Distillery

This morning collected tlour group from hotel near Edinburgh Airport and then headed north into central Scotland. We crossed the Forth Road Bridge (with view of famous Forth Rail Bridge) and arrive at our first stop at Pitlochry about 10.30am. Here group spent about 45 mins exploring this popular tourist town and then we drove to nearby Edradour Distillery to join tour commencing 11.30am.

Private Scotland Tour, Tour Scotland

This morning, I collected my small group from their Edinburgh lodgings and then drove out of Edinburgh, across the Forth Bridge and then east first stopping at Lower Largo which was the home of Alexander Selkirk, real world role model for Robinson Crusoe.

Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland

This evening, I am focusing on the small Speyside town of Dufftown in Moray with population of about 1500.

Although essentially a planned town (unusual for Scotland) dating from 1817 the history of the settlement dates back to the 6th century when Mortlach Church was founded, one of the earliest Christian sites in Scotland.
