This evening, I am focusing on Glenfarclas Distillery on Speyside, Scotland.This sits in the shadow of Ben Rinnes (mountain), and is located between Aberlour and Grantown-on-Spey, about 62 miles N.W. of Aberdeen.

Bull, possibly Red Poll breed, Scottish Highlands

Today’s leg of our Scotland tour entailed a journey from Inverness in the north to Dundee in the east.

The first section from Inverness to Grantown-on-Spey was uneventful but thereafter as we reached high altitudes the temperature oscillated between plus 2 and minus 2 centigrade with snow showers. We followed the A939 through Tomintoul, Lecht and Cock Bridge to Crathie and then on to Braemar where we first stopped to view Braemar Castle and then on into the village for lunch.

River Spey at Grantown-on-Spey, Scotland

This evening, I am reporting on Grantown-on-Spey (pop 2000)  which was founded in 1766 when it was established as a discrete ,planned town (unusual for its day in Scotland) by James Grant. The town grew and prospered and today its attractive silver granite buildings are home to a wide number of shops, guest houses, hotels, restaurants and families. Grantown is very well positioned for touring the Speyside whisky distilleries. In the locality there are opportunities for salmon fishing, water sports, hiking, bird watching and visiting gardens.
