Central Scotland Plain from Wallace Monument

This morning we commenced our extended tour of Scotland.

We departed lodgings at Glasgow Airport and drove north with first stop at Stirling Castle which has played an important role in Scotland’s history, both as a military fortress and Royal Palace. We visited all the main aspects including Royal Apartments, Great Hall and kitchens.

Royal Apartments, Stirling Castle

This morning, we departed our Edinburgh lodgings and drove south for about 20 mins to visit Edinburgh’s ‘other’ castle, Craigmillar. ┬áThis was originally owned by the Preston family then Gilmours and finally Government ownership after it fell into ruin. The fabric is now in good order and affords visitors an excellent insight into the medieval castle.

Stirling Bridge, Scotland.

This evening, my theme is the Battle of Stirling Bridge which took place on September 11th 1297.

Stirling is about forty miles N.W.of Edinburgh, Scotland.
