Jacobite Express at Glenfinnan, Scotland

This morning, we departed our lodgings in Fort William and drove west for about 15 miles to Glenfinnan.prime purpose if the visit was to watch the Jacobite Express ( aka ‘Harry Potter Train’) traversing the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Glencoe, Scotland

This morning, we departed our lodgings on Isle of Arran, S.W. Scotland and caught the mid-morning ferry to Ardrossan on the mainland. From this point we drove north to Glasgow and then to our first stop of the pretty, heritage village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Fort William, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the popular Scottish Highlands town of Fort William which is about 109 miles north of Glasgow.

Fort William (pop 10,000) is situated on the shores of Loch Linnhe. The name originates from a fort (only the basic foundations of which still exist) built in 1690 as part of a strategy to pacify the Scottish Highlands during the rule of King William. Fort William has successfully established itself as an outdoor centre with emphasis on mountain biking, skiing and mountain climbing. The town sits at the northern end of the 96 mile long, West Highland Way hiking trail.
