his evening, I am posting information on the central Scottish town of Pitlochry. This town, in its Highland Perthshire setting, became popular with visitors on the advent of the railway in late Victorian times and  to this day tourism plays a major role in the local economy.

This evening, I am reporting on today’s small group hike around the Calderglen-Langlands Trail in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. This complements the hike undertaken on January 27th.

Chatelherault, Hamilton, Scotland.

This evening, I am posting information on Chatelherault near Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, about forty-one miles west of Edinburgh.

Chatelherault originated as a hunting lodge and summer-house in 1732. It was built for the Dukes of Hamilton who engaged the services of leading Scottish architect, William Adam for the project. Positioned with a high elevation, is was originally at the end of a grand avenue of trees which ran from Hamilton Palace . Due to subsidence the Palace was demolished but Chatelherault survived and benefited from extensive restoration between 1979 and 1987.
