Waterfowl in Winter

Waterfowl in Winter at Rouken Glen, Glasgow

This evening, I am presenting a small portfolio of images taken over the past 48 hours around south Glasgow which illustrate the current winter spell which is likely to be prolonged with more snow on its way.

Above image shows a small bank of swans and other small birds on a semi-frozen lake at Rouken Glen park.

Below is a waterfall located in the same park.

Here is the part-frozen lake at Rouken Glen. Very soft ice and certainly not safe to walk on.

Here is a view from Queens Park of a snowman enjoying a vista of a snow covered Glasgow. Not far from this site was fought the Battle of Langside in 1568 between forces of Mary Queen of Scots and the Regent Moray. The latter prevailed.

The weather is predicted to remain cold with snow on its way over next 24 hours.

This morning, inspired by the sunshine, I ventured out into Rouken Glen to obtain some images of the subtle seasonal colours . There was a fascinating range of shades of gold, brown, green, red and orange augmented and manipulated by the streaming sunlight. The stream (burn) flowing the Glen added other dimensions and opportunities.

A productive and enjoyable trip.

Today, I am posting winter images obtained during my walk this walk morning around the snowy landscape of South Glasgow. Overnight, winter returned with a combination of a good covering of powderysnow and sub zero temperatures. This provides opportunities to take a fresh look at the locality and observe people and wildlife managing-even having some fun- in the wintry environment. Most of the images below were taken in and around Rouken Glen, a country park popular with locals.

Here is a father and child having fun tobogganing in the snow.
