Culloden Battlefield

Today, we benefited from improved weather and were able to spend the morning at Culloden Battlefield near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. This was the site of the last battle on British soil when, on April 16th 1746, a Highlander (Jacobite) army under Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by a British force under General Cumberland.

Piper at Glencoe

This morning I collected tour group from Glasgow Airport at 7.45 am and then embarked on a trip as follows:

  • North to Loch Lomond via Dumbarton. Here we stopped at the heritage village of Luss on the banks of the Loch and visited the church in burial ground of which is a Viking-era ‘hogback’ grave marker which may date from the 9th century.
