Young Farmers Promotion at Cromarty Firth

Today, our focus was on places in N.E. Scotland associated with Clan Ross. Our endeavours were partly successful in that whilst we did visit locations such as Tain (Easter Ross), Pitcalnie (Ross-Shire) and Kildary (Easter Ross) we were unable to view Balnagown Castle, ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan Ross, as ownership has changed and the property is very secluded. However, weather conditions were, on balance, favourable and we were fortunate to view a wide range of sites plus a wedding and crew of a sea-going skiff undergoing training.

Langholm Castle, Scotland

This morning, I collected tour guests from central Edinburgh, Scotland at 0900 and embarked on a trip to the Scottish Borders as follows:

First stop at Johnstons of Elgin, Hawick. This company specialises in cashmere and fine woollen products. We availed of refreshments here and visited the showroom.

Tour Group at Isle of Arran Distillery

Today’s weather was characterised by sunshine and showers.

We commenced the day with a drive north from Brodick to Lochranza, lasting about thirty minutes. We arrived in time for the 11.00 am guided tour of Isle of Arran Distillery which was founded by the late Harold Currie in 1995 and is now in a strong growth phase with output rising to 1.2m litres pa with a new distillery under construction in Lagg in the south of Arran.
