Today, we visited two important but divergent sites at Llangollen, N.E. Wales.

First we called at Plas Newydd (New Hall) which was made famous by two aristocratic ladies whose lives straddled the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Today, benefiting from favourable weather conditions, we embarked on a four mile hike on a route covering sketchy paths and farm tracks reaching a height of 853 feet.

Canal Boats at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Wales

Today, weather proved favourable.

We drove about four miles along a mountainous back road to the town of Llangollen in North Wales which has been a tourist destination for about 200 years. Llangollen is very tourist orientated and is a good base for touring the local region. The town straddles the River Dee, is adjacent to the popular Llangollen Canal and features a steam train which runs over a short distance of track.
