This evening, my theme is Charles Rennie Mackintosh in general and Hill House in particular.

Hill House

Charles Rennie Mackintosh  designed Hill House at Helensburgh  for Glasgow businessman Walter Blackie in1903. It is located in a large plot above the Clyde coast. Much of the modelling forms abstract, elemental formal compositions. The entrance facade is modelled graphically, in dynamically satisfying shapes of overlying planes. Privacy of the occupants is afforded via the grey, severe exterior. Arguably, the building is as striking today as when first completed over 100 years ago. Today, we enjoyed an interesting tour during which we witnessed part of the Glasgow Women’s 10K race 2010, visited two Mackintosh designed properties, visited Geilston Garden, near Helensburgh and drove around the southern tip of Loch Lomond near Cameron House, a High End resort.

This afternoon, I went off to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s House for Art Lover at Bellahouston Park with principal objective of obtaining images of emerging seasonal plants and flowers in the well kept garden which adjoins the Houseover For Art Lover. Unfortunately, the recent very severe winter seems to have taken its toll. However, by way of consolation, I was pleased to see a good display of snowdrops emerging from the ravages of the frost and ice.
